Deliverance:
Speculative Future in Form
Deliverance is a conceptual design project that speculates on a distant future shaped by the farthest reaches of genome-editing technologies. Drawing inspiration from the real-world advancements of CRISPR/Cas9, the work imagines alternate realities in which humanity has unlocked—and perhaps overstepped—the full potential of genetic manipulation.
Through a series of functional sculptures, Deliverance materializes these imagined futures into the present. The pieces are realized through a hybrid of traditional and contemporary fabrication techniques, including leatherworking, metal smithing, and 3D rendering and printing. Each material and method reflects a different aspect of the speculative narrative, blending the organic with the synthetic.
Central to the process is the use of Rhinoceros (Rhino 3D), a digital modeling software employed not only as a tool for design and iteration but also as a conceptual mirror to genome editing itself—precise, complex, and rapidly evolving. The digital workflow enabled the creation of intricate forms that embody the tension between control and chaos, possibility and consequence.
Deliverance exists as both artifact and allegory—questioning the ethics, aesthetics, and future landscapes shaped by our manipulation of life at its core.
